About Grade Calculator Plus
Grade Calculator Plus is a set of free calculators for working out grades: your course grade, the score you need on a final, weighted categories, test scores, averages and semester grades. Teachers can use the test grader and print grading charts and scales.
Every calculation runs in your browser. The numbers you type aren't sent to us or to anyone else, and you don't need an account.
The site is independent. It isn't connected to any school, district or gradebook software.
How the numbers are worked out
- Percentages are shown to at most 2 decimal places, and a half rounds up. So 89.995% shows as 90%.
- A letter grade starts at its cutoff, and the letter is decided on the percentage as shown. On the 10-point scale with plus and minus, 89.995% is an A- and 89.994% is a B+.
- The score you need on a final is (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w, where w is the final's weight. A final worth 20%, a current grade of 85% and a target of 90% need 110%, so the best you can finish with is 88%.
- When category weights don't add up to 100%, the weighted calculator rescales them and tells you so. An empty category is left out until it has a grade, and the result says so.
- Letter averages use grade points on a 4.0 scale, where an A+ counts the same as an A.
What the calculators can't know
Schools set their own grading scales and weights, and teachers set their own rules. Your gradebook may round differently, drop a lowest score or weight something your syllabus doesn't mention. Treat a result here as an estimate, and check your syllabus or ask your teacher when a grade matters.
The calculators use the 10-point scale with plus and minus until you choose another. Switch it from the Scale menu under any calculator, or change single cutoffs with "edit cutoffs" there. To compare the common scales side by side, see the grading scale page.
